The VESA size of a display is typically directly proportional to its size. VESA 200 x 200 mm is mostly found in screens measuring up to around 40 inches while VESA 400 x 400 mm is used in screens up to 70 inches in size.
Bigger screens measuring more than 70 inches in size normally have VESA 800 x 400 mm mount patterns. This means that a screen with a VESA size of 400×400 mm will typically be larger and heavier than a screen with VESA 200×200 mm mount holes.
Therefore, the answer to whether VESA 400×400 will fit VESA 200×200 is maybe. It all depends on the mount or stand you use. If the mount is universal or allows for this range of compatibility, then you can use it to mount displays with both VESA 400×400 and 200×200 mm mount holes.
If the monitor mount only supports displays with VESA sizes of 200×200 mm and below, then you won’t be able to use it on a 400×400 mm VESA size display.
What is VESA 200x200 and 400x400?
VESA stands for the Video Electronics Standards Association. This organization defines technical standards that are used during the manufacture of mounts and displays.
VESA size or pattern is the horizontal and vertical distance in millimeters between mounting holes found on the back of displays. VESA 200×200 translates to a horizontal and vertical distance of 200 millimeters between the mounting holes and VESA 400×400 mm refers to a distance of 400 mm between the holes.
Examples of other VESA sizes are 200X100mm, 200X150mm, 200X200mm, and 300x300mm.
The VESA size is always quoted the same way: horizontal x vertical distance in millimeters, regardless of whether the mount is fixed, tilting or swiveling.
What size VESA mount do I need?

As mentioned earlier, the VESA size is typically proportional to the display’s size. Screens with 400 x 400mm VESA patterns normally have sizes ranging between 32 to 55 inches and weigh up to 99 lbs.
Smaller screens measuring 17 to 43 inches and weighing up to 44 lbs normally have VESA sizes of 100x100mm, 200x100mm and 200x200mm.
